MAX
We also noticed that Max is not a Schnauzer, but we are softies and love all breeds, so we decided to help this little guy. Max is a very cute, loving, intelligent, active and curious two year old Rat Terrier looking for his forever home.
He loves giving and getting kisses, going for walks, cuddling, chasing toys, playing hide and seek, napping, getting his belly rubbed and he especially loves chewing on bully sticks.
He is very protective of his home and foster mom, and so would do best as an only pet and in a home with children over the age of 12. He is learning to trust people and his foster mom has promised him we will find him a special forever home. Perhaps it's with you!.
ome should be over the age of 10.
Please e-mail his foster mom at kalenehan@comcast.net
PUPPY MILL RESCUES
On December 30, we accepted 4 Miniature Schnauzers from a puppy mill rescue. These three females and one male are 3-4 years old and are all very sweet. They are slowly coming out of their shells and the male has been adopted.
They will be getting spayed/neutered and brought up to date on their vaccines. They will also receive dentals and any other veterinary care that is required. The three girls have juvenile cataracts, but still have their sight and get around just fine.
They all get along well with other dogs and also with cats and seem fine with their foster mom's children, who are over the age of 10.
LAYLA
Before and after her grooming.

Layla is 3 years old, salt and pepper with a docked tail and natural ears.
She is a little doll who loves and is always looking for attention. She is wonderful with other dogs, with cats and with kids over the age of 10. She is doing very well with her house and crate training. She does have the beginnings of juvenile cataracts, but that does not stop her at all. Her vision is still fine and she has no trouble getting around.
LUCY (in the back) and HALEY (in the front)

HALEY after her grooming

Haley is three years old, salt and pepper with a docked tail and natural ears.
She is a very sweet-natured girl who just wants to please. She is coming out of her shell more and more each day, it is great fun to watch her blossoming into the dog she will become. She will seek you out to ask for attention. She is wonderful with other dogs, with cats and with kids over the age of 10. She also has the beginnings of juvenile cataracts, but this doesn't stop her at all, she easily gets around every where she goes. She is learning her house and crate training skills very well.
LUCY after her grooming

Lucy is a 3 years old salt and pepper with natural ears and a docked tail.
She is bit by bit getting more comfortable with this whole new world outside of the puppy mill. She is coming out of her shell very slowly and is the most insecure of the 4 puppy mill rescues. She is good with other dogs, cats and kid aged 10 and older. Her house and crate training are going smoothly, although those two items are not the most important on her agenda.
Lucy's foster mother reports that Lucy presently has low self-confidence, most likely related to her poor vision, a result of juvenile cataracts. She sees very little and just out of her right eye it seems. She doesn't mind affection but will run if you come toward her. She'll come up to you on her own terms, very briefly, and mostly just to sniff you. Given the proper amount of patient training and guidance, she will blossom into a wonderful little dog.
Who ever adopts Lucy may choose to have cataract surgery done, which would restore her sight. Unfortunately, it's not possible for a small rescue such as ours to shoulder that expense. That is, unless we receive enough donations to give this darling dog the gift of perfect sight.
Lucy is now available for adoption. HOWEVER, we need to be extremely selective about her new owner(s) and home. She is starting to be a bit braver with coming out of her crate to get a toy or her dinner, but is still an extremely frightened and confused little dog. Her new owner must have a strong understanding of a puppy mill rescue, and the problems that these dogs are saddled with. She needs a quiet environment, perhaps with another calm dog who will lead but not overwhelm her. She will need an owner who knows that the best thing to do with such a fearful dog is to simply ignore her and allow her to learn the world in her own time, on her own terms. And, that world should be just her house and yard, which should be fenced in. If she were adopted and then dragged around the neighborhood for a walk, or taken on car rides or errands or into a pet store, she could suffer a huge setback in the strides she has made thus far. Likewise, any visitors to her new home need to understand her need to be left alone and must resist the natural urge to scoop her up and comfort and love her (which would be the worst thing to do). If you have what it takes to give Lucy what she needs, your work will be rewarded when she fully recovers from her tough start on life. It will take a long time, but the rewards will come if she is properly handled.

Gus is 9 years old, 23 pounds and is either a Mini Schnauzer or a Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle Mix).
Gus is a very well behaved dog, happiest to simply hang out with you. He is fine with cats, but is picky about which dogs he will be friendly with. He loves to go for walks and is great in the car.
He would do best in a home with older children (over the age of 12) or with no children.
We simply love his grin, which he is showing off in the picture on the left above.
